HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED?
  • The player is generally assigned to a team by school area, grade and previous team assignment.
  • Accommodations may be made for friend or coach requests but no guarantees are made that these requests can be fulfilled. The YMCA has final jurisdiction on the team in which players are assigned.
WHY ARE TEAMS DIVIDED BY GRADE LEVELS?
  • The YMCA believes it is important for participants to play with their friends in their own grade level. It is possible to play a grade level above but players wishing to do so must directly contact the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA Sports & Recreation Director, to determine if it is the correct choice to make. It is not possible for a child to play at a grade level lower.
HOW ARE COACHES SELECTED?
  • All coaches of YMCA Sports leagues are volunteers. Volunteering to coach a youth sports team can be a rewarding experience and a service to the youth of our community - but most of all - it's tons of fun!
  • The YMCA will provide manuals, eLearnings and mini trainings with the Sports & Recreation Director to get coaches started.
  • If you are interested in coaching, please mark this during participant registration, or contact Sports & Recreation Director.
WHAT ABOUT PRACTICES?
  • Practices are set up by the coach, in cooperation with the players, once per week for 1 hour.
  • Practices may begin after the coaches meeting or after the Coaches Meeting or the Coach's Packet Pick-up.
  • Contact your coach about practice questions or cancellations.
  • Preschool League teams will only practice on the day of their scheduled games.
HOW SHOULD FANS CONDUCT THEMSELVES?
  • Coaches and spectators need to remember that the Youth Sports leagues are designed for young people.
  • We strive to incorporate a positive, low-key, less stressful, non-competitive atmosphere for our participants.
  • Inappropriate or negative behavior will not be permitted and expulsion from the league is possible.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR REGISTRATION?

Each registration period has a deadline to ensure there is time to prepare teams for the season.

All registrations must be made online or in person at the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA.

If registering after the registration deadline: A $10 late fee is assessed to cover the costs to place participants. Any late registration not placed on a team will be sent back in its entirety.

Once the season begins, refunds are unavailable.

DO YMCA MEMBERS GET A DISCOUNT FOR YOUTH SPORTS?
  • Yes! We have member and community member rates for each registration.
  • YMCA Sports Shirts are $15 for each participant - regardless of membership status.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF A GAME IS CANCELLED?

The YMCA Youth Sports Cancellation Notices:

  • Sports & Rec Director communicates with Coaches via Remind App messaging system & Coaches communicate with parents via email/text.
  • Posted on our YMCA Universal App
  • Posted here on the website
  • Posted on our Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA Facebook page
YMCA Sports Shirts Vs. YMCA Sports Jerseys

I paid for a youth sports shirt, what is the next step?

·         You can come to the Member Services desk at the YMCA anytime to pick up your Youth Sports Shirt.

   Our hours are Mon-Fri 4:30am –10pm; Sat. 8am – 6pm; Sun. 12pm -6pm

The Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA Sports & Recreation Department is transitioning to YMCA sports shirts.

What does this mean for you?

  • To make the transition as easy as possible:
If you have an old YMCA jersey, your child may still use that jersey until if/when you purchase a YMCA sports shirt.

  • Home teams (listed 1st) will wear their YMCA sports shirts OR their old YMCA jersey with the white side showing.

  • Visiting teams (listed 2nd) will wear their YMCA sports shirt with a red jersey over the top (red jerseys are provided by the YMCA at games) OR their old YMCA jersey with the red side showing.

When you purchase your YMCA sports shirt, you may pick it up at the front desk of the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA anytime our facility is open. If you wait to purchase or obtain your shirt on the first day of games, we kindly suggest to arrive at least 20 minutes early before your schedule time.
