Mental Health Awareness

Resiliency is our ability to make it through tough times and come out stronger on the other side. There are many things we can do to become more resilient.

Join us for a weekly discussion on strategies to cultivate calm and build resilience in ourselves and others. The series runs for 6 weeks and is offered in a hybrid setting: you can come join us in person at the Y or tune in virtually over zoom.

Each session will end with a guided meditation to center yourself and leave in peace.

Dawn Welch has worked at the YMCA for the past 7 years.  She is the Program Coordinator for chronic disease prevention and management in our Wellness Department, and we are excited to have her lead our Steady Heads, Open Heart series.   She has earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience working in the medical and mental health field. Helping people create physical and emotional wellness in their lives is Dawn’s passion.  She believes there is no more valuable pursuit than the goal of greater health and quality of life.

Dawn states, “My role as a health specialist is to partner with YMCA members and members of the Siouxland Community to help prevent disease or improve existing health conditions.  And I am very passionate about bringing my past experience into programming at the Y and encouraging people to take some time to work on their mental health.  We all have mental health!”
